Hospice Care
In the final phase of an incurable disease or illness, Maplewood’s staff provides humane and compassionate care so life may be lived as fully and comfortable as possible. By helping patients live their last days as alert and pain-free as possible through managing symptoms, the time the person has left may be spent with dignity and quality, while being surrounded by loved ones. The focus is on quality of life rather than length of life.
Treatment that focuses on the person rather than the disease is provided by our compassionate staff. Designed to respect your values and treatment preferences, a plan of care will be determined by you, your family, your doctor, and Maplewood’s care team. Rest assured, you will be as independent and comfortable as you can. Our team focuses on caring for the whole person, not just the disease—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs, you will receive the highest possible quality of life.
Hospice care is used when curative treatments no longer help and life expectancy is about 6 months or less. Palliative care is the treatment utilized to provide comfort by assisting to relieve disease-related symptoms, but not cure the disease. The primary focus of hospice care at Maplewood is to improve quality of life, allowing you to make the best of each day during the last stages of advanced illness. If the disease symptoms subside, you may be removed from hospice care and can take advantage of active care treatments.
As you or a loved one begin the final chapter of life, Maplewood provides comfort and choices. The caring staff at Maplewood will be there to assist you and your family with decisions about end of life care, including working with one of our hospice partners, St. Judes Hospice or Home Health United.
