February 6, 2021Protection Against Covid-19
Throughout the United States and the world, the Covid-19 virus has been spreading with great speed. This can cause significant anxiety, especially for those who themselves (or have loved ones) who fall into any of the high risk categories.
However, by following specific health guidelines, there are ways to better protect yourselves against the Covid-19 virus. Let’s review some of these guidelines.
Three important ways to stop the spread
- Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.
- Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.
- Avoid crowds. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.
Vaccinations for Covid-19
Fortunately, two vaccinations for Covid-19 are now being distributed and vaccinations are underway in the U.S. These vaccines, from Moderna and Pfizer, are first being distributed to those who fall into the highest risk groups, including those in nursing facilities, those who are over 65 years of age and those who are on the front lines in healthcare.
Both of these vaccines require an intital vaccination followed up by a second vaccination within the next several weeks to month. Both vaccines have shown very good efficacy in the prevention of Covid-19.
What to do right now
You should follow the health guidelines that are set forth by the CDC and your local and state health deparrtments. If you are unsure when you can acquire a Covid-19 vaccination, contact your local health department or your family physician.
In the meantime, take the necessary steps and precautions to keep yourself and your family safe.
